A Better Way

From continued use of the statement "There has to be a Better Way" as we edged closer to envisioning and committing to starting a business to bring our belief in the value of agile enablement programs to organisations, "A Better Way" was born as our way to express that with the right approach, it is possible to look to a future where all business, old or new can take advantage of contemporary, agile ways of working.

Our Story

We founded off the back of their personal learnings frustrations as project professionals. As with all project professionals, our shared frustrations included:

  • Shifting project priorities seeing (often poorly considered) some initiatives shelved at the drop of a hat;

  • Continued pressure deliver faster than ever; and

  • Difficulties in securing reliable resources for what seemed like more than 5minutes at a time

Perhaps however our greatest frustration came from organisations deciding that agile (a big buzz word) would somehow be the magic bullet to solve all these problems……and let's be honest a number of companies have made a lot of money in selling the virtue of agile transformation projects to sponsor this view.

As seasoned practitioners with agile methodologies for over a decade and true advocates of the value offered by agile we started to explore what it was that say agile transformation initiatives deliver varied levels of success. These levels of success was often also perceived differently within the organisation itself with those actually trained in agile being the "happy campers" and leaderhip the disatisfied stakeholders. We decided that there had to be A Better Way!

In taking on the challenge to seek a better way, we first agreed on a few fundamental drivers:

  1. Changing Project Priorities changing is something that cannot be avoided or controlled. To think or pretend that otherwise in a world where change is only speeding up is just ludicrous;

  2. Projects are evolutionary, and therefore, change is something that again cannot be controlled and, in our view, should not be as control whilst feeling empowering can often impede the opportunity for positive change; and finally

  3. The platforms that enterprises have worked so hard to embed as a part of the digital transformation efforts provide an opportunity for rapid delivery, something that needs to be embraced rather than focussing on "big bang" delivery

Our aha moment came in realising that whilst agile absolutely is a part of the solution,  it counts for nothing if the operating model of the business does not align.

Armed with this check, we set about defining an approach to enable business to make a larger progressive, and holistic change to adopt contemporary agile ways of working by focussing on the wider operating model supporting the delivery of business initiatives.

We finally arrived at our foundational "better ways" that underpin what we bring to our Customers:

  1. A better way to shorter project delivery cycles

  2. A better way to Manage Project Priorities

  3. A better way to Resource Business Capability delivery

Our ambition is therefore to provide tools, processes and training with the primary goal of Agile Enablement. Here in quenable home, you'll find more about us and our services and some of our general thoughts and publications around agile enablement. In addition, to this, by becoming a member of quenable, and a part of our agile enablement community we offer additional resources that you can freely reference and start discussions into your own "worlds" looking to adopt your own better way.
